Question I have a Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P 42 in. EDTV. tv that is mounted on a wall. I am using component video cables from my cable box into an Onkyo receiver and component cables from my Onkyo receiver to the tv. The component cables are free generic cables given to my by my local cable company.
My issues is that I have been getting a scrolling dark color band (green-ish tint) scrolling across my tv. The scrolling begins on the bottom and slowly moves its way up. It is more noticeable when watching dark movie/tv scenes. Have you or anyone come across this? I was thinking of investing in better cables (Monster Ultra), but I didn't want to waste money if that is not the issue. I am a novice/amateur with respect to entertainment systems. Any help would be appreciated. (The tv is only 8 months old). Thank you.
Answer Juan,
The problem may be due to 60hz (cps) power line interference making its way into the TV either through the cables that are connected to the TV or through the AC power wire. A good test is to unhook everything and connect a VCR to the TV and play a movie to see how the TV screen looks. If the TV screen doesn't show the lines when playing a movie, the problem is coming into the TV from one of the cables. Try hooking up one item at a time until the noise bars show up, when they do that cable or device is the cause of the noise bars.
