TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting/Sony Projection TV Red Convergence Problem

I am experiencing a Red Ghost/Shadow image to the right of the real picture. I have connected the system straight to the wall cable drop and performed the auto convergence, manual convergence, disconnected the power over night and the problem was not corrected. I removed the front and back covers to see if there was a way to adjust the convergence on the tube/gun assembly. Manual adjustment of the tabs moved the Red somewhat, but would only allow me to line up one of the rows on the manual convergence setup menu. So now the center of my screen is perfect, but both sides are out and the convergence problem is worse the farther from center you look.
I have read past advice on Ghost/Shadow problems, but do not know which board on the Red assembly is the convergence board (V Board A1405146A or CR Complete A1302182A parts from www.partstore.com). I can't find a good description or free service manual online to help identify the correct part. First do you believe it is a convergence problem? Is there a separate convergence board for each color on this model? What is the correct part number? Should I just replace both boards?
I work with computer hardware frequently and would like to perform this maintenance myself.
Thanks in advance
AnswerFirst try and put the tabs back where they were.
these are only moved when the tube is first installed or replaced.
one of the convergence ic's is bad part number on ic start with stk. they are mounted on a heatsink
changing the part is easy realining the convergence takes 3-5 hours due to 3 formats and other issues.
this job is a bear for a tv tech so i don't recommend it
for a weekend repair.
If you send this set for service tell the tech you have moved the tabs so he can recheck the setting before starting the convergence alignment.
in most cases i change both convergence ic's.
these are high stress parts.
cost to do this repair is 325 labor parts cost 100 dollars
good luck
