Subject: Sony Trinitron XBR (Askii Characters?)

Question
Hello, I have a six year old Sony XBR connected to Directv. For about about the last year, ASCII characters (For the lack of better term) show up on the screen intermittently when ever I watch ESPN. When I turn off the TV and back on, they go away. Sometimes they stay away sometimes they come back. I have also tried different closed caption settings, (CC2, CC3, CC4 etc) which seems to fix the problem but only for a short time. It does not happen on any other channel. What am I doing wrong or is there a problem with the set or signal.

Answer
Sounds a bit strange but let me confirm your thoughts, me too am under the impression that it is setting related and would probably end up being something character related, info, Closed caption, Teletext or similar.
Before asking for a service call, I would suggest you do some reading and fiddle around with the menues.

Good luck

N George
