TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting/TV turns on by itself

Question
About 10 days ago we bought a Magnavox 14" set for my wife's upstairs sewing room.  3 or 4 days later we had Comcast hook up the cable.  Since then, every other day or so, we find the TV on. It happens at various times, night and early AM. I suspect a garage door opener possibly.  We called both Comcast & Magnavox and both said they've never heard of it. I find this hard to believe. Would plugging it in to a strip rather than the wall plug help? Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hello Don,

Yeah I have to agree it's not very common but actually if it happened to me I would try these few things and see if it helps, one at a time working my way like a process of elimination:
i would try disconnecting cable from TV to see if it helps or if it is related to the problem.
I would then power the TV from another power point even thru a long power cord again for a couple of days.
I would then try moving the TV to another room for a couple of days and see if that helps.

I would be interested in knowing the outcome if you have a minute to write back to me after trying those hints.

Good luck
