TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - Thin Horizontal line in middle of TV screen 1996 Zenith 27" Sentry 2

Question
Thin Horizontal line in middle of TV screen  1996 Zenith 27" Sentry 2

I bought it (used) two weeks ago.  The TV was working great up till just last night.  I walked out of the room and when I came back in the picture was just a small thin horizontal line in the middle of the screen.  I tried unplugging it overnight to see if it might "reset" itself.  It did not.  Is it hosed?

Answer
David,

Sorry for the bad news.  The horizontal line means the vertical deflection system, probably the amplifier, has failed.

GOOD NEWS: The horizontal deflection and high voltage is probably okey.

Cost of repair:  If only the vertical deflection amplifier needs replaced - which is 80% of the case in these sets - then the cost will only be about $60 to $80 if you take the set into the shop.

Good Luck.  Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks for using allexperts.
