Subject: Toshiba Model TP50650 Problem

Question
I own a Toshiba Theaterview rear projection tv.  Model number TP50650.  Chassis TAC 9752.  Serial number 81994513.

Until a few days ago I have had no problems with this set at all.  Then, when turning on the tv a black square that covers most of the screen pops on.  I can see around 2" all around the picture.  I have isolated the problem to the tv and not to any of several input signals, (DVD, VCR, etc...)  For the first few seconds of power up the picture is fine.  I can press the EDS button and the screen is fine for approx 30 seconds and then the black square pops back up.  This almost appears to be a setup problem, but so far I have not been smart enough to figure it out.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Steven, I am not sure what it is but what I would personally try is disconnecting TV from Mains overnight hoping that it would reset itself.
No luck?
I would check on how to access the installer's hidden menu on this model as it might be related.

Good luck

N George
