Question
I have a Zenith console TV, Model SC2787P made in 1986/87. I have not had one minute's trouble with it until several weeks ago. Now, the sound is barely audible and the up/down volume control buttons do little to increase/decrease the sound. At a very high volume setting, the sound goes out completely and there is a "thumping sound" at that point. When the sound is audible, it "pulsates" sometimes with an almost syncopated rhythm and then it returns to normal. This pattern repeats intermittently over time.
I have read answers to repairing "old" Zenith's but,like some others, I LIKE my dinosaur and would like your expert opinion on what might be wrong and the prospect/cost estimate for fixing this problem.
first be sure it is not your cable box if you have one.
i do not think it is becasue the tv shuts off. but i have seen cable boxes do weird things.
sounds like the audio output in the tv is bad. this thumping sound is AC comming through to the speakers. if you have a digital camera i could point it out to you on the board. as far as getting it fix???? you might not find a tv shop that will work on a tv this old. but if you do a repair cost will range around 150.00 or so. if the audio output is not the problem and they have to replace the board. the tv will not be able to be fixed. this board is no longer made.
i would be carefull of how much $$$ i put into this set at this age.
