Question Hi, I have 6 component 7 including t.v. I wanted to hook them all up together so they all work, this is the list that I have.
1.) Onkyo audio video control tuner amplifier.
2.) Onkyo stero cassette tape deck.
3.) Onkyo compact disc changer.
4.) Sony cd/dvd player.
5.) Audio Source (those thing that display light to the rythem of the music).
6.) Karaoke system, forget the name.
How do I hook them all up together so they all work. I use to hook them and they all work and I even map all the component by drawing, but it been more than 5 year now so I lost the map, and I try to hookup again they work but the karaoke doesn't have sound, but when I try to say something I can see that the light from audio source display to the noise that I make, but no sound in the speaker, but when playing dvd, cd and cassette they all have sound.
Answer Hello minh,
Let me rank them and leave you the choice:
For sound, normal RCAs would be very basic, optical and coaxial are two different methods to hook-up digital audio, I am not really sure if one is better than the other!!
When it comes to picture (or both Video and Audio signal for some of these), HDMI is the best and most recent, it is similar to DV (on digital handycams and similar) but handles audio as well in digital, then comes RGB or composite (red, green and blue plugs are all for picture so you usually run AV by RCA along with it) then below it is S-video which is again video only, below it is RCA AV or the lowest type of connectin would be by RF thru a normal coaxial cable which gets you to tune a channel number on the TV (it is the lowest in quality that's why it doesn't exist on DVDs).
To be practical about connecting your equipment it will largely depend on what inputs are available and what priority you are giving to each piece of equipment and also what will need to be recorded and what not.
I tend to think if you are happy the way they are connected but your only problem is the sound from the Karaoke machine, follow the wires and check on the documentation you have but do not attempt to rewire everything so that you don't loose it all and start from scratch.
