Question I have 2 computers in one room and came home from work to find one of them buzzing and an electrical smell. It burnt the rug and the other surger in the room was blown. Then I discover the dish network cable box is completely dead and the TV in the other room was completely dead. The TV was plugged into a surge prot. along with 2 dvd players and they work! All the outlets work. What happened to the TV? The computers still work fine and the TV that was directly connected to the main dish network receiver works.
Answer Judy,
It sounds like you suffered a current spike or surge but because different equipment have different tolerance, some were affected more than others although they might have been electrically connected in the same way.
I suggest you make use of a professional tradesman to check on everything and put his recommendations, he might decide on a house surge protector or maybe something else that he would see appropriate.
