Expert: cleggsan - 1/3/2006

Question
Hi, I have a 5 yr.(approx.)toshiba PJ tv, model# 50A50. It's size is 50 in. I was wondering can I replace the broken lentricular screen myself (a foot went through it)and if so how do I remove the screen and also where is the best place to buy reasonably priced replacement parts (I am on a budget). Thanks so much in advance.
                 Sincerely,  Debi

Answer

ONE:
http://www.partstore.com/ModelDetail.aspx?MfgId=117&ModelID=116637&close=1&exact...

Partstore.com, above, has 714 parts listed for your model; you will have to search through the many pages.  If they do not have it, you may want to call them and see if they can get it.

TWO:
Also, Toshiba parts will may have it.  You can reach them through the numbers in your manual or their www site.

http://tacpservice.toshiba.com/ConsumerProductSupport/consumer_parts.htm

Above, is a listing of parts and accessories distributors.  Contacting them may lead you to a source, also.

THREE:
For the replacement of the screen you must study its removal from the service manual instructions.  I do not know this model directly; they are all a little different and some are much more difficult than others.  Many can be removed without getting inside the set, but others require major disassembly of the whole system.  It is not so technical; but laborious to do so.

FOUR:
If you are mechanically inclined and have done such kinds of repairs prior, you should be able to handle this one.

FIVE:
Make sure the set is otherwise operating properly.  This set is old enough that I would not pour other repair money into it.

SIX:
When speaking with the various agencies above about a replacement lense, ask them about removal of the original, they may have some specific instructions to follow.

SEVEN:  If you need a service manual, you can find them on the internet and from various parts places, including Toshiba parts.  A manual with pictorial instructions on the assembly of the set will usually cost around $20 to $30.

Maybe this will get you started.  Let me know if you will need further assistance.

Thanks for selecting www.allexperts.com for help.
