Expert: cleggsan Date: 2/6/2005 Subject: hitachi vcr no remote
Question i have a hitachi m281 vcr that was a hand me down from a friend. i have it hooked up to cable and it works fine except that it wont go up past channel 13. she no longer has the remote and the universal remote i bought doesn't work with it. there is no menu button on the front of the machine. any ideas as to how to program more channels in?
thank you.
Answer This is a very old vcr, Dina.
It probably does not have more than 13 channels in the tuner. There is nothing you can do to get more other than replace the vcr with a newer model.
Very early vcrs were vhf only and tuned just the 13 channels.
However, if I am wrong, you can easily find out by going to the osd (on screen display)mode and look for an antenna or cable setting for the tuner.
If your remote does not have a menu button, you must obtain a universal remote that does have such. Then you can enter the menu area.
Last comment; if this is an old set with the mechanical tuner, then it will not have osd.
