Subject: RED AND BLACK RUBBER VERSUS RED ON BOTH SIDES

Question
I AM AWARE THAT ONE SIDE OF YOUR PADDLE SHOULD HAVE A RED SIDE AND THE OTHER BLACK "IF THE RUBBERS ARE DIFFERENT"

BUT WHAT IF BOTH SIDES OF YOUR PADDLE HAS THE SAME RUBBER?

I HAVE A PADDLE THAT HAS RED RUBBER ON BOTH SIDES THAT ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. IT IS AN INEXPENSIVE PADDLE BUT IT WORKS FOR ME.

I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE ONLY REASON FOR TWO DIFFERENT COLORS OF RUBBER WAS SO YOUR OPPONENT COULD TELL WHAT RUBBER YOU WERE USING
(SPIN,OR ANTI SPIN )

SO FAR NOBODY HAS CALLED ME ON IT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE REAL RULE SO IF THE CLUB I PLAY AT CALLS ME ON IT I CAN SHOW THEM THE RULES.

I CHECKED THE WEB SITE RULES BUT THEY DON'T ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.

THANK YOU

Answer
Hey Wayne,

Your guess was right. The smooth side is for smashing (or anti-spin) and the rough one is for spinnning the ball. As you said, there's no rule about that. It's like in soccer when you kick the ball with your forefoot or midfoot depending on which way you want to direct the ball.

Regards,
Macarious Abadeer.
