About Magda Vince
Expertise
I can answer questions about general living, working, visiting, and traveling in Taiwan. Especially Taipei city, I have lived and worked in Taiwan for the past several years. I CANNOT read or write Chinese, but I speak well enough to get by. I'm not an expert on postal codes and services, please check this site or contact the Taiwanese postal service via this site to find the postal codes you might be seeking. http://www.post.gov.tw/post/internet/u_english/postal_e.jsp

Experience
I speak enough Chinese to get by, but by no means am I fluent, so I am aware of both sides of the language coin. I live and work (teaching English) in Taipei city, and have travelled around to places like Hualien, Toroko, Tai Dong, Green Island, Ken ting, Kao Shiung, Tai Nan, Sun Moon lake and Tai Jung. Plus locations all over the northern tip of the island. At one point or another I have been into the clubbing, beaching and outdoor scenes alternately over the past few years, so I have a fairly eclectic knowledge base. Ask away, and I'll do my best to help you out :D. Magda

Question
Hi!
I am going to Taipei on holidays pretty soon and I am wondering if you can recommend a cheap and good hostel?
Thanks!

Answer
The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the happy Family one behind the train station.  I hear it's ok.  I've actually never been to a hostel in town, I'll ask around if anyone I know knows something better.  Also have you tried couch surfing?  The web site is couchsurfing.com  and you make a profile and message people on there about crashing on their couch or in their spare rooms... it's kinda cool and an interesting alternative a hostel.
good luck :)

Hey, I saw there is a new hotel in Taipei I went and checked it out and it's pretty nice actually.  Just for future reference :)
