Question Hi Lotta, I hope you can help. I am trying to locate the owner of a U.S. patent who lives in Taiwan because I need to find out if his or her product has been manufactured and is available on the market. I have the person's name and address, but no other contact information. I've had no luck reaching the U.S. attorney who represented the patent owner.I am planning to try to contact the person by postal mail, but I really want to reach them as soon as possible. Can you offer any suggestions as to how I might reach a Taiwanese patent owner? Also, just for my edification, is Chao-Mu a male or female name? Thanks in advance!
Answer Hi, Nikki.
First off, I would see if the person has filed any other patents, with another U.S. filing attorney - someone that you might be able to contact. You could also try contacting the Taiwan patent office (http://www.tipo.gov.tw/en/index.aspx) to see if that person has filed any patents in-country, with more contact information attached to the filing.
The other option would be to look for a university affiliation of some kind for the person. Try searching for the person's name, along with some key words about the patent, and see if the person pops up as doing research on similar issues at a Taiwan university. If you can find a link to a university, there is often contact information for researchers and professors listed online.
I believe that Chao-Mu would be a male. But you would be better off asking that question of a native Chinese speaker.
I'm afraid that's all I can offer, sorry. Good luck!
