Question
Hey Lotta,
I'm Chonghui from Malaysia.I'm going to Taiwan in a week's time. How low will the temperature go?Is it advisable to wear scarves and a thick jacket? And what about shopping in Taiwan? I heard that they have the most amazing stuff there. And how much money would I have to bring that is enough for 2 weeks?

Answer
Hi Chonghui,
Right now, the Taipei weather is pretty rainy but warm - lows in the 15-18 degrees Celsius. Although it can occasionally get colder than that, down to 10-12 degrees or so, you are probably better off with a lighter jacket and bringing some sweaters - that way you can adjust to the weather better by wearing several layers. A scarf is always useful, though.

Shopping in Taiwan is the best. They have lots of great stuff both at local night markets and in department stores. Makes sure to hit the Jade and Flower markets on the weekend, the Ximending area, and the Shilin night market. I have marked some places that I enjoyed on my "Things to see in Taipei" map on Google:

As for money, it really depends on how you spend it. Calculate spending at least as much as you do at home on food and other items, add in your hotel, and then any spending money you want. I don't know how it works in Malaysia, but you should have access to your home bank account using your ATM card in Taipei. See this previous question:

Have a great time!
