Question
Greetings Ron, and thank you for your valuable time and help.

I am moving to Tampa at the end of Nov.06. I wish to buy a fixer upper home or condo. What are some of the nicer areas of Tampa, where my roommate (both females) might feel safer? Is N. Tampa a good area in terms of getting out of a high level hurricane area?

Also, I'm aware of cultural and sporting activities there. What will we enjoy about the city and people? Are the people friendly? Is there a spirit of community there? How does Tampa compare to other cities you've lived in? Why do you love living there?

Thank you so much for your time and help!

Alena.

Answer
Tampa is a great place to live.

There are so many choices, its difficult to highlight a few.

We live in an area called New Tampa which is 20 miles from the downtown area.  We love it here.

There are master planned developments or traditional neighborhoods and it all depends on what you enjoy.

If you want to be by the water, than you would like in Pinellas County.  Hillsoborough and Pasco counties are the areas further in-land.

Some of the neighborhoods that you might want to look into include: Temple Terrace, Carrolwood, South Tampa, Brandon, Valrico, Riverview, the list goes on and on.

As far as hurricanes are concerned, as long as you are not on the gulf, your fears need to be tempered.  Not to say it cant happen, but we've been here 12 years and only experienced rain and some wind.

If you need help with a realtor, let me know, I have friends in the business.

Good luck.  You will love it here
