Subject: moving to Tampa - hurricanes?

Question
Hi there
Our family may be relocating to the Tampa area from Canada in the near future.  I have found your answers to others to be great - but I'm wondering does no one worry about hurricanes?  I've looked up stats on the web etc and it sounds pretty scary to us - as in scary enough to maybe not make the move.  The climate is VERY appealing but are we overreacting to think it is a little risky?
Regards
Billie

Answer
Hurricanes are a way of life for people in the South.  There have been many in the news during the past 2 years that have really heightened everyone's awareness HOWEVER, if you are prepared and take the threat seriously, it is nothing to be worried about.
Every storm allows for ample prep. time and if you need to evacuate, you have sufficient warning.  We have lived in Tampa for 12 years and have NEVER even had to contemplate it.
If you live by the water, you need to be vigilant.
We live 60 miles inland, so we normally prepare for RAIN.

Its a GREAT place to live, regardless of the hurricances, alligators, and humidity.

WE LOVE IT HERE!
