Question
My wife and I are planning a safari to East Africa in September, 2002.  Given that time of year, which country would be better for game viewing, Kenya or Tanzania?  Due to time constraints, we can only visit one or the other.
My concern that time of year is that, due to the migration from the Serengeti into Kenya, the game viewing will be more spectacular in Kenya and we will be disappointed in the viewing in the serengeti.
Thank You.

Answer
Dear Greg

The migration is a very difficult one to predict as it totally depends on the rains and the weather is so unpredictable these days. I don't think anyone is ever disappointed in the game viewing in the Masai Mara in Kenya or in the Serengeti as there is so much resident game in both areas. In September the migration is generally moving from Kenya into the Northern Serengeti but it depends on the rains that year. When you are only there for 5-7 days it is really just luck but you will proberbly see part of the migration and you will certainly see alot of Wildebeest and Zebra on the move. I really wouldn't worry if you do miss it as in either country you will have fantastic game viewing. In the Serengeti I use a small company who have luxury mobile camps. You have your own private guide who will take you out and each day is dictated by you. The guides will try and avoid other vehicles and tourists as much as possible. Each evening you will be taken back to the camp where there will be up to 6 other people staying. So in the day you do your own thing and night you can come back to your luxury camp and chat with the other guests about your day.

I hope this is of some help. Do have a look at my website www.farsideafrica.com and you can see the sort of holidays that I can organise.

Best Regards

Vicky
