Expert: Simon Kitururu Date: 5/16/2007 Subject: Tanzanian clothing
Question I have a question, could you please tell how the natives of Tanzania dress. Please help me out
Answer Most wear quite normal clothes just like anywhere in the world. But it depends on where in Tanzania due to weather differences. For example , in the coastal area it is hot and humid, central Tanzania is semi- desert so it tend to be cold in the night. In the southern highlands and Mount Kilimanjaro area also, might be cold so one tends to dress accordingly.
But then there are traditional African dresses. The Masai people tend to just use one piece of clothing which they wrap around the body . But others use modern African dresses that I will suggest U check this website:http://www.afrikasana.co.tz/ .They specialize in Tanzanian dresses.
But, If U are planning to go there, the normal dresses that U might be using in the summer time. might do just fine. But just include some sweaters which might help if U find Urself in colder places. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry .This is just for safety purpose. Avoid wearing too short clothes if U are a woman of course.Places like Zanzibar where there a lot of Muslims might find it offensive. I hope I was of some help!U can e-mail me anytime if U have more question :skitururu@gmail.com
