Question
Dear Sara

My friend and myself are considering visiting Tanzania on holiday next year.  We are 2 ladies in our 60's and have visited Kenya on a number of occasions and are to go again later this year.
We always go in September and last time were lucky enough to see part of the migration.

My question is, which month is the best to visit Tanzania on safari.  We are looking at safaris visiting Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and finishing in Zanzibar.  Also, most safaris on offer through the usual brochures are only for 6-8 days.  Have you any suggestions on where to go for a longer safari, in suitable accommodation for 60 year olds, and costing about £2,000.

Look forward to your reply.

Jean Lawrence

Answer
Hi Jean,
For visiting Tanzania, September is OK, although the wilderbeast migration will be in the Mara in Kenya.
However, the Serengeti is just fabulous anyway, plenty of wildlife. Tarangerie is one of my favourite places, a really special park.

To visit Tanzania and catch the Wilderbeast migration on the Serengeti Plains, (an amazing sight), the best time is late December and January.

A visit to Zanzibar is an excellent idea. It is always very hot and humid on the coast of E.Africa, especially in Dec and Jan. If that doesn't worry you then OK.
There are many different companies to book with, I know of some excellent people based in Tanzania who will be able to build a tailor-made package for you.
If you would like more information about where to go and which company to go with, please contact me direct at my e-mail address:
