Question Hi, I am a dance instructor and have recently been hired to teach a beg/int teen/adult tap. This is the only class I am not sure how to format, because I haven't taught it before (although I have tapped for many years). I am really a lesson plan kind of person, and I just need something to get my mind around. Right now I have two sequences developed for the warm up, one including toe taps, heel drops in various sequences, as well as many variations of shuffles done at different speeds. What else should I include in the warm-up and what skills would I need to focus on throughout the year. I have much of Al-Gilbert's cds, all except grades 5 & 9, but I don't really want to play uncle al all class long. Thanks for your help.
Answer I have taught many of beg. teen/adult classes. One thing I have learned is that you have to keep the class fast paced, but also slow enough so no one will feel left out. Steps across the floor to a beat (fast & slow), lots of hops & jump toes, & syncopation. I hope I was some help to you. Thanks for the question!
