Subject: non-marking taps

Question
I recently have started teaching tap at a small dance school in Japan.  I've been tapping for quite a few years and am used to studios that are unaccustomed to tap dance having issues with tap shoes marking floors.  However, in this situation they want me to continue teaching (since I may only be here 1 year), but the manager of the building says the taps are marking the floors.  I'm supposed to do a demonstration/performance on a stage at a different venue in 3 weeks and they, too, are concerned about scratching the floor.  This show is meant to advertise my class, so there is a sense of urgency.

Both locations are requiring us to get a tap floor.  Language/communication issues aside, it's hard to convince a new dance company with not much money to invest in rather expensive portable flooring for a dance teacher who won't be around indefinitely.  They are currently suggesting a Marley -type portable mat which I'm not too excited about, but we may have no other option.

Recently I was searching online and came across a pair of taps that claimed to not scratch or leave scuff marks on the floor.  They were offered in multiple colors and the advertisement said the sound is similar to actual taps.  I've been unable to relocate these on the web.  Do you know of any non-marking taps we could order as a cheaper investment than purchasing flooring?  Or do you have other suggestions?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi, I have also ran into this poblem.  I didn't perfer a marley floor compaired to wood  either but had to settle for one.  I've never heard of the taps you are speaking of but I don't doubt that their out there.  Sorry I couldn't help more.  Good Luck!
