Expert: Stephen Petullo Date: 3/4/2008 Subject: "Is it real love and will I be with him forever?" Truth about soul mates and love life realities
Question Name: Jamie May Mahon Birthday: 2/21/87 Female I'm 5'3" I have messy shortish brown hair, hazel eyes, and I'm average lookingish: average height and weight and I like wearing black; mostly jeans and t-shirts. My boyfriend( Brandon Jame De Ruiter--12/1/91-- An inch or two taller than me, shoulder leght blonde hair, wear black a lot like me and ratty sneakers) and I have been going out for 6 months and I'm pretty sure I love him. He's nice to me and he says he loves me. He doesn't pressure me into anything. And is okay if I say no to something. Does he really love me? Is it real love? Will I be with him forever?
Answer Hi Jamie,
It sounds like you've landed yourself a nice guy.
Does he really love you? There are many different kinds of love, and everyone loves differently. Does he appreciate you? Yes. Does he respect you? Yes.
Is it real love? I don't understand what you mean by that? Real love as opposed to what? False love? Deceptive love? Illusion? Lust? Real love to me is unconditional love, which means no expectations of anything in return, so yes, it feels like he loves you unconditionally.
But, and that's a big but, keep in mind that he's only 16. You two have things in common, but people change a lot in their teens and 20s.
Will you be with him forever? Love is forever, but most relationships are not, especially if they begin before the age of 30 or 40. Sorry, I have to be up front here to best serve you. In addition, I feel you both have other people in your lifetime that you are destined to meet and be involved with.
Depending on your outlook this may or may not be good news for you: through my research I've found that we all have many soul mates. Here's an article I wrote about it: http://www.holisticmakeover.com/Oct13th2006.htm
Jamie, just enjoy and cherish your time together and don't worry too much about the far future. He's a nice guy, you're fortunate to spend time together, and how long it lasts is not as important as it may seem.
