Question Hi, My friend just got a a tattoo and it is almost all red, and she seems to be having an allergic reaction to it. She's not sure what to do. She's been putting Benadryl on it, and then taking Benadryl orally too, if this doesn't go away does she have to get it removed? are there any other treatments she can look into?
Answer Laura,
Your friend may be suffering from a condition known as "RED REACTION" this is an allergic reaction to the red pigment in the tattoo. Her body is rejecting the red pigment in much the same way that the body rejects a splinter. Unfortunately all she can do is to let nature run it's course. The body will reject the red pigment but it may take from 6 months to a year for the process to complete itself. Your friend should discontinue use of all ointment , creams or lotions on it only intensifies the problem. In the future she will have to avoid red in all her tattoos.
I hope this has been of some help to you. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.
