Tattooing and piercing are not a "Learn On Your Own" professions. ALSO: Please DO NOT ask me about tattoo or piercing prices. Rates vary from region to region. Experience I was appointed By Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson in September 2009 to the Kansas Board of Cosmetology. I represent Body Art Studios and Artists on the board for the State of Kansas. I am one of only 27 people worldwide certified as a "Master Tattoo Artist" by the Alliance of Professional Tattooists. I have been in the Body Art Business since 1976. I apprenticed as a Tattoo Artist under Gene Grimm of Grimm's Tattoo Studio in Kansas City, Missouri. I took formal classes in Micro-Dermal Implantation (Permanent Cosmetics) in 1990. I had formal Body Piercing Training in 1992.

I just got my 7th tattoo on my fore arm. It is a huge black wrap-around bracelet, and it seems that I had an allergic reaction to it; rashes have developed on the last touch up I had on it (I had about 4 touch ups on it), and now ive got rashes all over my body. Ive been to the emergency room and they gave me cortisone pills and benadryl, and told me I had to get my tattoo removed. But this is my 7th tattoo, my first 5 ive done them at the same shop, and my last two, at a different shop, and it seems like Ive been reacting to my last two only. Its getting really intense, and I really dont want to get it removed. I haven't been applying much cream on it, since I believed that it wouldve healed on its own, and the cream made it more itchy.
Now it has been about three weeks Ive got my last touch up, and my allergy has been intense for the past two weeks. I really cant stand it anymore, what can I do?

Answer Anais,
You do not need to get your tattoo removed! All you have to do is stop using any creams, ointments, lotions or oils on it immediately. Let the tattoo dry out completely; DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ELSE ON IT! More than likely you are having an allergic reaction to whatever the healing compound was you used for aftercare. If you let the tattoo completely dry out and stop using any creams on your body the condition should clear up in 10 to 14 days. If it does not or if it worsens then at that time consult a dermatologist, a specialist in skin conditions. To help relieve your itching use oral Benadryl capsules and use Benadryl XS Spray on the rash NOT the tattoo.
AGAIN, YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET THE TATTOO REMOVED JUST STOP USING CREAMS, OINTMENTS, OILS OR LOTIONS ON IT AND THE RASH.
