Tattoos - New Foot Tat

Expert: Sasha Merritt - Professional Tattoo and Cosmetic Artist - 10/8/2009

Question
So, i wanna make it clear, i totally am NOT questioning the professionalism or ability of the artist that made this beautiful lotus on my foot.My tattoo on my foot is a "golden lotus" it has many colors in it. This is my absolute first colored tattoo on me. My problem i am having is that 2 weeks ago Friday i got this tat and my foot on the purple shading on the petals of this flower is severely tender to the touch. No other part is sore. I mean when i got it it swelled so badly i couldn't walk on it for a few hours but it's still sensitive. Is that normal??? thanks

Answer
Tiffany-

It is always good to talk to your tattoo artist in person as s/he is on the spot and can see what is happening better than I.

It isn't uncommon for foot tattoos to swell or even bruise, it isn't even super uncommon for it to be tender for some time. Two weeks is on the outside edge of that.  If it is improving slowly, I'd not worry.   If it doesn't get show improvement in the next few or gets worse, consult your health care provider.

Again, I'd say check in with your artist as well.

Good Luck

Sasha Merritt
