Tattoos - how to lighten red.

Expert: Sasha Merritt - Professional Tattoo and Cosmetic Artist - 5/1/2009

Question
I got a sun tattoo on my back 2 months ago and some of the red faded in the middle and I want to know if more orange or yellow will be able to cover (I'm not fond of the red anyway)Thank you so much.

Answer
Erin-

It is always good to check in with your tattoo artist as s/he is on the spot.

It is possible to lighten the color, baring in mind tattooing is like watercolor painting and the color put over is affected by the color being covered.  So the red will has some impact on the new color, perhaps trying a more golden orange will give a good orange color in the end.

Consult with your artist to see what will be the best color.

Good Luck!
