Tattoos - Is my tattoo healing right?

Expert: Sasha Merritt - Professional Tattoo and Cosmetic Artist - 6/25/2009

Question
It has been two weeks since I got my First tattoo, and it is healing (its itchy), but the middle where the most shading was done, is faded and the color purple looks faded. When it is dry the skin peels off in white flakes and then i use H20cean. Is this normal and should I be worried about the color?

Answer
Nesha-

It all sounds quite normal- flaking and dry skin and so on.  The colors will always look less bright when it heals as the ink is a bit brighter when it exposed to oxygen and as it heals under skin it will be seen through your skin and without air.

You can talk to your artist and see if it needs a touch up.

Good Luck!
Sasha Merritt
