Subject: White Ink Tattoo

Question
Hi - I have 7 tattoos, all had white ink used, and I take white ink very well (PH balance). I recently decided to get an all white tattoo after seeing many pictures of sucessful all white ink (look more like brands than tattoos) and had it done in a prominent place on my forearm.  The artist used the normal, dark blue supposedly dissolvable stencil, and the tattoo turned out a horrible muddy blue color!  After two months, it still didn't look healed (still looked very "wrinkley"), so he refilled it, this time with no stencil.  It's been 6 days since, and it still looks blue!  Has he screwed me up permanently?  Thanks!

Answer
Lisa,

This is exactely why white should only be used as a mixer or highlight and not a prominant color. Because tattoo pigment is applied darkest to lightest by the time white is applied the ginseng violet stencil as all but been wiped away. Tattoo pigment is translucent and darker colors always show through lighter colors. By tattooing over a fresh stencil the white picked up the violet color and changed its pigment consistency ie; a color (violet) was mixed with a nuetral (white) to create a new color. The tattoos that you may have seen that were all white all have the same thing in common; They won't last and they were done without using a ginseng violet stencil. You have a blue tattoo now and there is really not much that can be done about it except to have it removed with laser treatment or covered with another design.

I hope this has been of some help to you. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.
