Question I am in a bit of panic mode here, I have had 2 jobs for a few years now and in Feb. of 2007 I was able to let go of my part-time job and retain my full-time job. Since I worked for 2 months in 07 I have a W2 coming from them. I moved a few months ago and it never occurred to me to call them and change my address. I have been told W2's can not be forwarded and get sent back. I called my prior part-time job and I was told they mailed out yesterday and I am probably looking at early March before I receive it. My questions are, is there anything I can do to file and by law when does a company required to get my W2 to me. I am struggling so bad right now and my income tax was going to be given me some relief. It is ultimately my fault for not letting them know of the change but is there anything I can do?
Answer The company has until 01/31 to mail NW-2's. They are required to mail to the last known address. I assume there was withholding on the W-2 - otherwise it is not needed to file.
There is not much you can do except ask them to send a copy. They are required to keep a copy. If you provided a new address, they are required to send the original W-2 to you when it is returned by the Post Office.
Hopefully you did not burn any bridges and someone in payroll will be kind to you and send a copy.
