Subject: MIA accountant during Tax deadline - please read for detail.
Question We hired a certified CPA to help us take care of our back taxes. She was able to post-pone the deadline, and we gave her our "paperwork". Now the the deadline is here, we can't get hold of her. Over the last 2 1/2 weeks, I have left several messages. I faxed her just in case her phone was down, I left two notes on her door for ANYONE to call us and let us know what has happened to her.
1st question - Is there a CPA board that this can be reported to?
2nd question - Will I be responsible for missing the tax deadline in the eyes of the IRS? Penalties etc.
Answer Yes, you can call the state accountancy board and report her actions to them in the form of a complaint.
You are still responsible for filing the taxes by the deadline, so seek another accountant.
The accountant you hired to prepare your taxes is responsible to pay any penalties assessed due to her negligence.
