Subject: child support

Question
I have been married a year, and my husband and i just filed joint taxes.  My husband has to pay child support and owes back support...will that affect our return?

Answer
If his case has advanced to the stage where the IRS is involved - then the refund will likely be taken and applied to his debt. You may be able to get your portion back by filing an Injured Spouse Claim. For information on these claims, go to: http://irsos.com/InjuredSpouse.htm
