Question My husband passed away in june 2007. I filed my 2007 taxes as married. How many years does IRS allow me to use this status?
Answer if you have a qualifying child, you can extend the joint filing (I think only one year). However, if it is just you, you'll have to go with single. However, if there is a dependent, you may file in 2009+ as "Head of Household."
FILING STATUS
Joint is the best, followed by Head of household, than Single than Married Filing separately
