Subject: IRA beneficiary question

Question
Hi - The question is, would it be better to name my trust or my kids individually as beneficiaries to my IRA, given that my kids are the only people named in my trust. My goal would be for them to be able to roll my IRA into theirs on my death.

Thanks for any help that you can offer!

Answer
They cannot roll your IRA into theirs.  However, they can move it to an IRA that stands alone.

As to whether it should be your trust or your kids that are the bennies is a question I cannot answer, I don't know enough about you.

Your tax professional will know or your CFP.

Helen, EA in PA
