Question Jay- It's a mess. I havent paid taxes in over 7 years and the IRS has placed a lien for $28k. I just moved to CA from Florida and am in the process of finding a job. I sincerely want to clean this up and settle my consumer debt (about $45k) and don't know where to start. There are legions of companies making amazing promises and I'm not sure what criteria I should look for before making a choice of who to hire. Any guidance would be amazingly helpfull. Thank you for your time. ~ Adam
Answer Adam,
Actually where you start is to check my website and give me a call but I don't know if I can simply answer a question that way?
IRS taxes can be put off especially if you have no means to pay at all. Preparing your taxes is not excusable but won't get you to jail. The liens or any possible levy they may find will never go away without you being in compliance (which means to prepare the returns). For those unable to pay or owe over $25,000, this requires negotiation showing a financial statement and 2 turndowns for a loan.
Re: Consumer debt - You can't get blood out of a turnip but it takes some finesse to get the credit people to leave you alone even if you have little or none to pay.
After you have digested this much or take my advice in paragraph one, write me back?
