Question
My mother passed away a few years ago, we have a man that does out taxes. He has not submitted our taxes for 2 years that I know of. I am now taking care of my father and his financial issues. I need to know if this man has put in for extension or what. I am under the impression that every month you do not pay your taxes you will owe more later on. I want  find out if he owes any monies and pay them or just know that he is caught up with taxes. We are going to sell a home and we want to make sure all our debit are paid. He will not give me any info. Will my father still get the stimulus check that everyone has gotten?

Answer
Your father needs to file his taxes to get the rebate, and they need filed by October 15.  Sit down with your dad, have him call the IRS and tell them that you can talk to them for him.  Then ask them if extensions have been filed or what is the status of the account.

If you need a referral to a GOOD tax person, just let me know your city and state and I'll see if I know someone.

Helen, EA in PA
