Subject: service dog
Question Have physical disability making it difficult to walk service dog. I know I can deduct maintenance and care of dog as medical expenses, but can I also deduct the cost to fence in part of my yard so the dog can get some exercise?
Answer Yes, HOWEVER, you can only write of the amount that is over what the fence does for the value of your home.
For example, you spend $4,000 on a fence. It adds $3,500 to the value of your home (you will need a real estate appraisal). Then your deduction is $500.
