Tax Law (Questions About Taxes) - Sales Tax

Expert: John L. Tidwell - 10/15/2009

Question
I recently had a granite counter top installed in my kitchen A number of companies, Home Depot being one of them told me there is no sales tax on granite. Is that true? It's my understanding if the same company measures, manufactures %26 installs it there is no sales tax

Answer
Mr. Pontillo:

That may be true for your state.  Sales tax and what is usually taxed is different for each state.  I know in Tennessee, my State, it would be taxable.  However, I do not know what state you are in.  You failed to mention what state you are from.  However, I would not know the answer to state sales tax question unless you lived in Tennessee.

John
