Expert: John L. Tidwell - 11/17/2009

Question
Good day to you, I would like to find out the amount of estate taxes that was paid on my mothers' estate both federal and state, also how would I find out what the value of the house was on the estate tax returns? BUT! I haven't claimed any taxes on my mother's estate ever....I was told that I couldn't; she died in 92 please help I'm lost and I cant afford a lawyer. Thank you soooo much for your time in this matter. Regards. Nicole S.

Answer
Nicole:

All records of an estate are filed with the court that had jurisdiction over your mothers estate.  Those records will be the only records that remain.  The federal statue of limitations 6 years has passed and those (tax) records are not now available.

John
