Tax Law (Questions About Taxes) - Rent to be claimed as tax deductions

Expert: Alexandra Shainskaya, CPA - 6/27/2009

Question
Hi,
I heard that they are trying to allow the rent to be claim as a tax deduction .
i don't know if that actually true or just a rumor .
please let me know .
thank you

Answer
Dear Mariem,

Rent is not deductible on your federal tax returns.  It could be that your state is considering making rent deductible on the state return, but you did not specify what state you live in.

Best regards,
