Question I am receiving a 3/4 disability pension from NYS Police & Fire System. Coded as 3 on the W-2 or 1099 (I forget which) and pay no Federal or State taxes. I know as long as I live in NY I pay no tax, but I would like to know 2 things:
1. If the pension remains non taxable on a Federal level no matter where I live.
2. What states if any give a tax break to disability pensions besides the states that have no personal income tax?
Answer Robert,
Thanks for your question.
Your residency does not affect the taxability of the pension for Federal tax purposes.
There are 43 states with differing laws. Since this is a volunteer forum, I cannot cite the laws in this regard for all 43 sates.
