Question Our company supplies vehicles for us to use. We have to record our personal miles. We are told that personal miles are counted as commutes from home to our first appointment and from our last appointment to our home. I have an office at home that I work out of. Do I really have a commute if I am leaving my home (office) or coming back to my home (office) to do work. I don't list my office as a deduction on my taxes, and I do have an office outside the home that my employer provides.
Answer Chris,
Thanks for your question.
Yes, you do have a commute. The home office appears to be for your convenience, not that of the employer (since an office is provided for you). Therefore, the commute is personal mileage.
