Question Background data;
1) one way from home to employer is 11 miles
2) a certain vendor is 28 miles round trip from employer
I understand that if I drive my vehicle from the employer to the vendor and back to the employer, all 28 miles are a business expense and I'm reimbursed.
My question is; if I travel from my home to the vendor to the employer and log 26 miles, is all 26 miles deductible? Or, must I subtract 11 miles and only be reimbursed for 15?
Also, the reverse...employer to vendor to home...what is the mileage deduction that I can claim, 26 or 15 or ?
Answer William,
Thanks for your question.
The first and last stop of the day are not deductible mileage. Therefore, your trip from home to the vendor are not deductible. Your trip from the vendor to the employer is deductible.
