Tax Law (Questions About Taxes)/Filing Status

Question
I was widowed in 2011. I am now living alone.
I presume that my filing status for 2012 is that of a Single Person. Is that correct.....or may I file as Head of Household.
Thanks for volunteering.

Answer
Hi,

For two years after the death of your spouse, you can file as a Qualifying Widow.  That is beneficial to you.   If you have a child living with you, you can claim the child and after the 2 years you can file as Head of Household.

Regards,
Carole
