Tax Law (Questions About Taxes)/1099B for stock sale for estate

I hope you can help clarify my rsponsibility in regards to a 1099B I received as the administartor of my mother's estate. My mom passed on in 2011. In 2012 we(my father, brother, sister and I) agreed to sell some stock my mom had owned. The total stock value was about $18000.00. This was the only income from my mother's estate. I have received the 1099B reporting the sale. As administrator of her estate, do I need to file a 1041 form to report this to the IRS or should this be filed on my personal return? The ID used on the 1099 was my mom's SSN.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Thanks for your question.

Assuming that the stocks were in her name when sold, you would have to file a 1041. You can choose to pass the income through the 1041 to the beneficiaries and have them pay the tax.

Hope this helps.
