Tax Law (Questions About Taxes)/resident and non resident

My name is Diego and I live in CT and work in NY.
I commute to NY for work. I do not work in CT at all.
My W2 only withheld tax for NY.
Do I need to file a Non-Resident return for NY and a Resident state return for CT?

I also use the Schedule A.
I have tried doing them this way and it says I owe CT $2500..
Why should I owe CT if I dont work in CT?

Thanks for your question.

You owe tax to CT because you are a resident of that state.  As a CT resident you are subject to tax on all your earnings regardless of source.  You will file a CT resident return.

Since you had earnings in NY, you are subject to tax on those earnings and will file a NY nonresident return.

To avoid double taxation, CT will give you a credit for taxes paid to NY. You will claim the credit on your CT return.

Hope this helps.
