Tax Law (Questions About Taxes)/Married, but living in separate states

Hello there,

I live in Wisconsin, own and pay for our home, and have 2 children.  My husband lives in Florida since the beginning of April, and will continue to do so through the end of the year.

Do we file separately or together?  Is there anything in particular we need to know?

Any guidance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Assuming that he has not left you with no intent to live with you, you may file a joint return. You also have the option to file married, separate, but this filing status normally results in a higher joint tax liability.

If he has not been in your house at any time during the last six months of the year and has no present intent to live with you in the future, you are considered unmarried for tax purposes and may file as head of household.

Hope this helps.
