Tax Law (Questions About Taxes)/Mortgage interest and tax deduction

My adult daughter lived in the same house as me.I own it.  I am 61 years old. Approximately 6 months ago, I moved to a 55 and over community. My daughter continues to live in the house that I own and makes all payments for mortgage, taxes, upkeep, etc. I did not legally transfer the house to her but I have no objection to doing so. Now the issue is who can deduct the mortgage interest and real estate taxes. I would like my daughter to be able to take all deductions since she is paying all bills.Should I just add her name to the title and name her as a co-borrower on the mortgage? Thanks

Thanks for your question.

In order to deduct the interest and taxes, she no must be the one paying those amounts. In addition, she must be legally liable for the amounts. This means that her name must be on the title and on the mortgage. However, this cannot be done retroactively.

Hope this helps.
