Tax Law (Questions About Taxes) - E-filing and form 8379...

Expert: Carole Dunton - 12/21/2004

Question
This year my husband will be filing form 8379 (Injured Spouse) because I owe a debt to the State of Indiana. My question is, if I file online electronically (as I did last year) can the form 8379 still be filed with our tax return or will I have to let a professional tax prep service e-file it for us this year?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi,

The IRS accepts Form 8379 electronically but that doesn't necessarily mean that the site you used last year offers the form.  Go to the site and see what forms are offered.  If you are using Turbo Tax I believe it offers that form for electronic filing but I haven't actually used it.

Regards,
Carole
