Expert: Paul Date: 10/18/2006 Subject: can tea spoil
Question I have tea purchased in China about 30 years ago. It is in a decorative metal container and doesn't appear molded or spoiloed in any way. I have drunk it recently with no ill side effect. However I was given 2 different opinions on its safety. 1) the tannic acid in it can become poisonous over the years and 2) it is especially healthy when aged.
Do I dump it or consume it?
Thanks for any information you can supply.
Answer I would avoid drinking that tea. Shelf-life is not usually longer than a year to a few years maximum. Certain types of tea are aged, but that does not actually mean that they are especially healthy. Infusium Tea, Inc. is an online tea shoppe that carries the freshest tea that I have tasted. Right now their primary online product is Wu Long tea, which is prized for its flavor in China. It is also beneficial in numerous ways including weight loss, healthy skin, healthier teeth, and more! They order their tea directly from tea farmers in the Fujian province of China. Visit their website www.infusium-tea.com for their contact info plus a sizeable database about the health benefits of their tea! If you have any further questions about Wu Long tea or Infusium Tea, Inc. just let me know! Take care!
